Sixty-six toshaos and treasurers from Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and 10 on Thursday received certificates in leadership, following an extensive two-day training hosted by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs. The leadership training was geared at providing village leaders with knowledge in specific areas to help them achieve their community development goals.

Cabinet has granted its approval for the auctioning of 14 oil blocks offshore Guyana, Vice President, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo announced on Thursday during a press conference at Office of the President. The auction was initially slated for the end of September, however, the vice president noted that extensive preparatory work had to be completed. Government hired IHS Market as the lead consultant for this process.

Amerindian Leaders Urged to Practice Financial Accountability
Amerindian Leaders have been called on to practice financial accountability in their respective villages, in light of several reports of financial irregularities at village councils. The call was made on Wednesday by Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai at the opening of the annual two-day leadership training for Amerindian village councils, held under the theme “Accountability for Good Governance.”
