Why Don’t We Have a Modern Highway from Georgetown to Lethem as Yet?

The PPP/C government, upon taking office, had promised again that paving the road from Lethem to Georgetown would be a priority. Reportedly, there has been some progress, but it is moving at a snail’s pace. Guyana now has the financial resources to move the Lethem-Georgetown road project forward. And the government in power such make it a top priority. Doing so will give people in the hinterland greater access to services in the city. It will also result in a greater influx of Brazilian travelers, boost commerce, tourism, and the country’s economy in general.

In March this year, we wrote about the historic launching of the Lethem Cricket Club which was spearheaded by Mr. Kenrick McDonald. Since then, top ranking officials, public figures, and authorities in the Region have given the project their full support. The Lethem Cricket Club is now in full swing, and very soon, football will no longer be the only sport practiced in the Rupununi Savannahs.
