A student of St. Ignatius Secondary School in Region 9 has painted an outstanding portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II of England. The painting is now a world famous one after it went viral after we posted it on the Guyana, South America Facebook Page. In just one hour, the post reached over 10,000 people and received hundreds of congratulations. It is so easy to see that there is an enormous reservoir of hidden talent behind that painting!
Editor’s Note: A former British colony, Guyana was granted Independence in 1966. Queen Elizabeth II was the Queen of Guyana from 1966 to 1970 when Guyana was an independent sovereign state with a constitutional monarchy.
Now just 15 years old, Geveron Moses was born in Wowetta Village, North Rupununi where he started his formal education at Wowetta Nursery. He later migrated with his family to Katoka Village where he continued his education at the Katoka Primary. After excelling at his National Grade Six Entrance Examinations, he was awarded a place at St. Ignatius Secondary, Central Rupununi, Region 9. He is currently a student of the Arts Stream at St. Ignatius Secondary in his final year – preparing to write the CSEC exams in 2023.
During an interview with this publication, Geveron explained that he was born with a love for art, and he found himself instinctively drawing objects since he was a toddler. But he was also inspired and guided by an uncle, another talented Rupununi artist, Mr. Jerry Marco, who helped him to develop his latent talent.
When I was twelve years old, I did a portrait, and my uncle Jerry gave me a few tips of what could be improved and why. He often gave me guidance and training, and I drew much inspiration from him.
Budding artist Geveron Moses.
Geveron said that when he arrived at St. Ignatius, he was also inspired by his art teacher, Ms. Abiola Francis, who did a great job teaching him art techniques and who presently is his Art teacher in Form 5.
Geveron’s ambition is to become a professional painter, and he plans to pursue his passion at the Burrowes School of Art after high school.
Since Geveron might be ready for hire after finishing high school, we’ve decided to include his WhatsApp Contact as well as a link to his Facebook Profile in case you want to hire him or purchase any of his paintings.
