We have ended 2022 with a super few days at Sloth Island Nature Resort, Essequibo River. The island lived up to its reputation, and we saw 6 beautiful sloth, loved exploring the nature, and the hospitality was amazing. Well done to our amazing guide, Claude. It rained a load…but we still had fun!
Jane Miller, British High Commissioner to Guyana
Sloth Island is a privately owned island located in the Essequibo River of Guyana, South America. It is own by a Guyanese entrepreneur who created Sloth Island Nature Resort on the Island with the aim of promoting eco-tourism and also protecting the endangered species of sloth.
We do hope these photos will inspire you to make a tour of Sloth Island yourself! Special thanks to Jane Miller for these amazing photos!
The pale-throated sloths are perhaps the most striking of all the sloth species, with a large bright yellow face, white throat, and mottled fur, and yet they also receive the least attention. This species can only be found on the east coast of South America, ranging from Venezuela through Guyana, Suriname, French Guyana, and Northern Brazil.
