Tiperu Falls in located in the town of Bartica in Region 7, Guyana, South America – about one minute’s drive from the Bartica Airstrip. To get there from Georgetown, you can either fly to Bartica Airstrip or take the bus to Parika and then the boat to Bartica.
Tiperu Falls is beautiful and the water is refreshing. The vicinity of the fall is scenic. There are benabs located at the side of the falls and a hangout bar towards the top.
Naressa explains though, that there are broken bottles on the rocks at the side of the falls, and some broken bottles are even caught between rocks inside the falls itself – where the force of the water is not strong or deep enough to wash them away. This happens because irresponsible persons throw bottles down from the bar after drinking. The bottles fall, break, and lodge at different parts in and around the falls. Although the falls is not exactly chocked full of broken bottles, Naressa advises that persons should exercise caution while visiting the Tiperu falls so as not to get injured by broken bottles. One of her companions cut her foot on a broken bottle while walking barefooted on the rocks next to the falls.
Team Guyana, South America calls on the relevant authorities to put their foot down on persons who create safety hazards by throwing bottles in and around the Tiperu falls. We suggest huge fines be implemented for persons caught engaging in this barbaric practice.
