A crime that shook the nation…on the 23rd of February, 2025, Guyanese across the country woke up to the horrifying news of a man shooting his wife to death from point blank range, leaving her with multiple bullet wounds. Since the incident occurred behind closed doors and within four walls, it sparked nationwide speculation as to what transpired on that fateful night of Saturday, 22nd of February, 2025.
Guyanese businessman Marlan Da Silva, of Diamond Village, East Bank Demerara, Region 4, has since been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife. He was remanded to prison awaiting trial. Da Silva told law enforcement that his wife attacked him with a knife, and that he shot her in self-defense. Since then, there have been nationwide calls especially by Vaughn’s family, women’s rights’ groups, and those fighting against domestic violence, for “Justice for Kenesha Vaughn.”
However, CCTV footage, only released today, 2nd of April, 2025, might very well corroborate Da Silva’s self defense argument, as it shows the woman charging towards him with an object (very likely a knife) in her hands. Da Silva then backed away, drew his gun, and fired, after which he appeared dazed and confused while Vaughn lay on the ground.
