Yesterday, 30th of September, 2024, we published a story detailing an incident where Mikhail Rodrigues, popularly known as the Guyanese Critic, had beaten a man identified as Brian Persaud, of Hampshire Village, Corentyne. Rodrigues alleged that Brian hit him with a beer bottle on his head prompting him to chase him down the stairs of the Montra Nightclub on Lamaha Street. However, Rodrigues stopped short of admitting that he dealt a beating to Brian, claiming instead that all he did was grab him by his shirt near to the collar. Today, 1st of October, 2024, in an interview with well known journalist Travis Chase, Brian Persaud came on air to tell his side of the story. Brian alleges that he was in the Montra Nightclub minding his own business when the Guyanese Critic came in conflict with a woman who was filming him (Rodrigues) without his permission. An altercation ensued between Rodrigues and the woman which Persaud said “had nothing to do with him.”

Persaud said however, that, a few minutes later, he walked pass Rodrigues holding a beer bottle in his hand, and Rodrigues apparently mistook him for someone else. Brian said, as he passed by, Rodrigues whipped out his gun and struck him to the face with the gun. At that point, Brian said he became scared and started running out of the nightclub and down the stairs. Rodrigues caught up with him and starting dealing blows to him, including kicks and punches to his head. There were also other persons, including Rodrigues’ son, dealing blows to Brian.

Brian Persaud expressed gratitude that it was the police patrol who saved his life when they stopped by and intervened. Persaud said that, had it not been for the police who showed up in the nick in time, Rodrigues would have probably loaded him into his car truck and brutally murdered him. He says he remains thankful to the police for their timely arrival, but that he is disappointed that they let Rodrigues walk free so quickly. Persaud asserted that Rodrigues attempted to murder an innocent man and as such should be behind bars facing the full brunt of the law. He is calling on the Montra Nightclub owner to release the CCTV footage of the incident which he says he is sure will absolve him of any culpability.

Persaud is also calling on the general Guyanese public to stop following Rodrigues on social media and to stop supporting his media business as he, Persaud claims, is a bully. The young man says that he is in the process of procuring a lawyer to fight his case and secure compensation for damages inflicted on him by Rodrigues.

Persaud said a medical checkup revealed that he did not suffer any broken bones, and that everything is in tact in his body despite the severe blows. He says however that he is in a lot of pain.

Persaud received several stitches about his body for wounds sustained during the beating.
