Last updated: March 27, 2025 at 15:57 pmThe United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has arrived in Guyana today, 27th of March, 2025 to discuss a number of key agenda items. These include economic and energy partnerships, regional security, and defense cooperation with His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana.
The United States Embassy in Guyana announced today, 27th of March, 2025, via its social media page:
“Secretary Rubio is in Guyana to discuss economic and energy partnerships, regional security, and defense cooperation with His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana. The U.S.-Guyana bilateral relationship promotes regional cooperation on shared interests including stopping illegal migration and transnational crime, and deepening economic partnerships to enhance prosperity.”
This high level diplomatic mission to Guyana further undermines Venezuela’s notorious ambition of annexing the Essequibo Region as it reflects Guyana’s strong bilateral ties and friendship with the United States, and especially so in defense cooperation. In the face of constant saber rattling from the Maduro Regime, the United States recently issued a strong statement in support of Guyana’s sovereignty and cemented it by sending a US Naval vessel into Guyana’s waters on the 27th of March, 2025. This military maneuver of the United States rides on the back of numerous others which showcase the United States’ willingness to defend Guyana militarily against Venezuelan threats.
In related news, pertinent to the statesman’s visit, the US has advised Guyana to stop contracting doctors via the Cuban Dictatorial Regime’s Medical Brigade. The Cuban Medical Brigade is reported to have all the stripes of modern day slavery and trafficking of persons, and feeds off the back of the Cuban people. This US policy was met with heated debate and great skepticism by Caribbean leaders. However, we trust that Guyanese leaders are informed and prudent enough to understand that supporting US foreign policies in the Caribbean are to the best interest of regional security and prosperity.
