As someone who has traveled well, I can attest to the fact that Guyana boasts one of the world’s richest culinary blend. Our snacks are especially tasty and unrivaled in the world. On many occasions, when I spent a long time out of Guyana, I found myself craving for Guyanese snacks such as eggball, bara, poulourie, etc, and also Guyanese food such as dhal and rice which is not known in some parts of the world. In these cases, I had to make them on my own or teach my foreign friends how to make them for me. One time, I had to ask friends from Guyana to traffic a few bottles of casareep from Guyana to the south of Brazil for me.
In the heart of Guyana, where rivers flow wide,
A rich culinary tale weaves its way with pride.
Six peoples, six paths, a fusion so grand,
Their flavors unite in this fertile land.
From the Indigenous, the first to create,
Came cassava, their gift on each plate.
With Casareep, bitter yet sweet,
They laid the foundation of dishes we greet.
Africans followed, with stories untold,
Bringing cookup rice, a treasure of old.
Slow-cooked and hearty, it nourishes deep,
A reminder of strength in each bite we keep.
The Chinese arrived with spices and flair,
Fried rice sizzling in Guyana’s air.
Each grain a burst, each vegetable bright,
A feast that dazzles from morning till night.
From East Indians the curries did flow,
Spiced with cumin, ginger's warm glow.
Roti and dhal, soft hands did shape,
A blend of warmth, tradition to drape.
Portuguese brought their garlic and lime,
In stews and pepperpot, they took their time.
Salted fish and seasonings, rich with zest,
Adding their touch to a culinary quest.
The Europeans, with bread and wine,
Brought new techniques to intertwine.
Their pastries, their roasts, their sauces refined,
Blending into a culture where all flavors bind.
In this land where six races stand,
The kitchen's a mirror of every hand.
From cassava bread to fried rice’s cheer,
Guyana's table holds all we hold dear.
