The Guyana Government has made yet another strategic investment into the lives of the Guyanese people, particularly in the area of educational development of Guyana’s children. The Guyana Government will now pay the cost of 8 CXC subjects for EVERY high school student in both private and public schools. This strategic move will not only take a burden off the backs of parents, but will serve as an incentive for students to perform: this opportunity to write CXC free of cost is a one-time opportunity available to high school students in Guyana. Hopefully, this subsidy will push students to study hard in school so they do not need to put themselves in the expense of having to pay for the CXC exams themselves.
If any student wishes to write more than 8 subjects, they will just have to pay for the additional subjects. Currently, the cost to register for one CSEC subject is about $5000 GY. So, a student writing 8 subjects in high school previously had to pay about $40,000.00 GY. President Ali announced that the rule will be implemented this year (2025) for all schools, both private and public, across Guyana.
As Guyana’s oil wealth pushes the country’s GDP through the roof, the Guyana Government has been making strategic investments in education, infrastructure, and human resource development to ensure a strong, sustainable economy, and a bright future for all Guyanese. On this note, the University of Guyana is now free for all Guyanese citizens. In 2024, President Ali abolished tuition fees for University of Guyana students. The rule took effect in January, 2025.
