The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela lies along South America’s Caribbean Coast. It covers an area of approximately 916,000 square kilometers.

Venezuela is one of the most resource dense countries in the world. With first oil production starting as early as 1914, the current leaders are still sitting on over 300 billion barrels of oil. On top of that, the Spanish speaking country boasts one of the world’s largest deposits of natural gas. This is in addition to gold, diamond, bauxite, iron ore, timber, and other abundant natural resources. Further, Venezuela has some of the most coveted tourism destinations in the world.

Despite all this, about 80% of Venezuelans are living in abject poverty while millions have fled the country, many of them left to the mercy of the elements.

After over a decade of mismanagement which has ruined Venezuela, Maduro is now looking to hold on to power illegally for another six years. If he succeeds, it might mean more US sanctions and further international isolation for Venezuela which will in turn bring even more catastrophic poverty to Venezuelans than the past 15 years.

If you were as oppressed and voiceless as the Venezuelan people currently are, wouldn’t you want the world to stand up for you?

The outcome of this current crisis will affect the entire world, and that’s why the world must get involved.
