Georgetown, Guyana, South America.
Today, 28th of May, 2020, marks day 23 of the ongoing recount of all votes cast in the March 2, 2020 elections in Guyana, South America. Today, a total of 90 more ballot boxes were counted. This brings the total number of counted ballot boxes for the general election to 1,423 out of the overall 2339. A total of 916 ballot boxes therefore remaining outstanding.
GECOM will obviously be unable to adhere to the original 25 days timeline and an extension is perhaps underway – although we have not received any confirmation of this.
Today, leader and presidential candidate of the LJP, Mr. Lenox Shuman, alleged that one Mr. Amsterdam hurled a racist remark towards him after they had a dispute over a ballot. According to Mr. Shuman, the vote was valid, but Mr. Amsterdam argued that it was not, and, in the process, referred to Mr. Shuman as a stupid buckman.
It is not the first time a member of the APNU/AFC party has made derogatory remarks towards Guyana’s indigenous people. Sometime in the past, an APNU/AFC minister compared poor CXC performance to a “buckman.”
