The New Cabinet of Guyana, South America – August 2020

Newly elected President Irfaan Ali has yesterday, 5th of August, 2020, named 19 new Ministers for his cabinet in the government of Guyana, South America. This is in addition to a few that were named on the 2nd of August – the day of the swearing in of the President.

On the 2nd of August, Gail Texiera was named Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance while Anil Nandlall was named Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs. On that day, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo was also sworn in as Vice President of Guyana while Mr. Mark Phillips was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Guyana.

Ali assumed presidency on the 2nd of the August, 2020 after the PPP/C was declared the winner of the March 2, 2020 elections in Guyana.

Here are the details of the newly formed cabinet.

Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali – President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana

Retired Brigadier Mark Phillips – Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo – Vice President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Mr. Anil Nandlall – Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs

Ms. Gail Teixeira – Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance

Zulfikar Mustapha– Minister of Agriculture


Pauline Sukhai– Minister of Amerindian Affairs


Charles Ramson–Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport


Priya Manickchand–Minister of Education


Hugh Todd– Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation


Dr Frank Anthony–Minister of Health


Robeson Benn–Minister of Home Affairs


Collin Croal–Minister of Housing and Water


Susan Rodregues–Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water


Vindhya Persaud–Minister of Human Services and Social Security


Joseph Hamilton– Minister of Labour


Nigel Dharamlall– Minister of Local Government and Regional Development


Anand Persaud– Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development


Vickram Bharrat–Minister of Natural Resources


Kwame McKoy–Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister


Sonia Parag–Minister of Public Service


Juan Edhill–Minister of Public Works


Deodat Indar– Minister within the Ministry of Public Works


Oneidge Allicock — Minister of Tourism

In addition, it was announced that the President and Vice President would take charge of the Ministry of Finance.
