Yesterday afternoon, Thursday, 23rd of September, 2021, a court order circulated on WhatsApp caused a lot of confusion between businessmen and authorities in Guyana and the protestors in Bonfim blocking merchandise from entering Guyana. According to the Guyanese businessmen, the court order already commands the police to disband the protestors, but the protestors say that while the case is before the courts, such an order has not been handed down by the court as yet.
Yesterday, Guyanese authorities, in anticipation that this court order would clear the way for the much needed supplies to reach Lethem, instructed the trucks to drive to the border this morning, and they instructed the GRA and Covid-19 Task force to take up their posts to clear the goods.
However, the trucks were blocked this morning by the protestors. Up to 10:AM, nothing has passed. The police are presently having a conversation with the protestors but we are not sure exactly what will be the outcome. We will update you as soon as the result of the confrontation between police and protestors becomes available.
