5th of March, 2022. International News. Russian/Ukraine War
Last updated: March 12, 2022 at 11:56 amOn the 5th of March, 2022, this publication published an article stating that Leonardo DiCaprio transferred 10 Million US dollars to the Ukrainian bank account set up for international donations. We got that information from multiple sources inside of Ukraine, including Ukrainian media.
However, no one was able to verify that the transfer was actually made. International Fact Checkers started to speculate that it might have been only a rumor. Independent Fact Checker with CNN, Dale Daniel, speaking to this publication, said that sources close to DiCaprio said he did not make such a donation, although he did give financial supports to groups and organizations providing charitable aid to Ukraine.
Although thousands of publications made copies or spinoffs of the article and proliferated it to millions of readers around the world, CNN fact checker, Daniel Dale, said that it all most likely originated from this article on GSA news.
In conclusion, GSA News would like to retract our story because it could not be verified. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Original Story Below
Sources inside Ukraine today, 5th of May, 2022, disclosed that Hollywood superstar, famed for his role in the hit movie “Titanic,” Leonardo DiCaprio, has transferred ten million US dollars to the Ukrainian government as the war rages on between Russia and Ukraine. Presumably, the huge donation is meant to support the war efforts as well as humanitarian efforts within the country.
DiCaprio, who has Ukrainian roots through his maternal grandmother, has strongly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine – joining a huge number of other celebrities around the world to have done so. Some Ukrainian-born celebrities have even flown back home from other countries to fight for their homeland a few days after the war started.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has openly appealed to the world for both military and financial support as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine takes a high toll on the country. A Ukrainian bank account has been set up for people around the world who wish to donate.

Your retraction is a failure. what do you mean “may not have’? You should be saying “WE APOLOGIZE FOR PUBLISHING AN UNVERIFIED NON-FACTUAL STORY ABOUT A DONATION BY LEONARDO DI CAPRIO TO THE UKRAINE”
OTHERWISE UNFORTUNATELY, NOW PEOPLE ARE GOING TO QUESTION WHETHER TO DONATE TO YOU.
We cannot say it is false until Leonardo himself debunks the story, not “sources close to him.” It’s not impossible that Leonardo could have made the donation anonymously and not want the whole world, or the Russian government, to know. As I stated, the sources from inside Ukraine where we got the information were reliable. Nevertheless, the story cannot be verified. It may or may not be true or false.
