Texas Shooting: Police Response Was Painfully Slow

On Tuesday, 24th of May, 2022, at around 11:30 A.M Texas time, a deranged youth, perhaps possessed by the devil or having psychological problems, went on a killing spree. His target: an elementary school of 7 to 10 years old. Reports are that he had shot his grandmother at home before leaving in a car. Covered in body armor, 18-year old Salvador Ramos was armed with a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, and high-capacity magazines.

Investigations reveal that the shooter had told a girl from Germany, whom he was talking to online, that he loved her before going on the deadly rampage. At: 11:30 A.M, the deranged psychopath crashed his car near to Robb Elementary School, then walked into the school compound, firing into classrooms as he searched for an entrance into the building. Around the same time, the police were alerted via 911 that the school was under attack. At around 11:35, Ramos had already entered the building and barricaded himself inside a classroom. Police arrived minutes later, but stayed in the hallway.

Between the time Ramos entered the classroom and police killed him were 75 agonizing minutes. At 12:51 P.M, a tactical unit entered the classroom and shot Ramos dead. Unfortunately, by that time, he had already killed 19 children and 2 teachers. Two law enforcement officials have also been wounded, one shot in the head, during the shootout, but are in stable condition. A total of 17 people have been wounded during the shooting, many of whom are children.

School shootings are not uncommon in the USA. So far this year, there have been 27 school shootings across the country. Children regularly rehearse what to do if a gunman enters the school. The US Second Amendment allows all legal-age US citizens to bear arms – a law which emerged in the context of the birth of the USA and the many conflicts Americans faced during the making of America. Unfortunately, guns have now overtaken car crashes to become the leading cause of death for children and teenagers in the USA.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

What happened in Texas on Tuesday is a perfect example how we as parents gotta be mindful of how we are speaking to our kids in the morning. Don’t yell at them. Don’t fuss at them for taking too long getting dressed, or because they can’t find a shoe.

I have to catch myself sometimes and remind myself that they may not come back one day and what I say before they leave the house is very important. Leave yesterday’s problems in yesterday. Wake up each morning with new love, grace and mercy towards your kids just like God does with us.

Those parents didn’t know it would’ve been their last time seeing their babies when they put them on the bus/dropped them off to school. I Don’t know about anyone else, but this was a lesson to me. Love them babies a lot harder man! Give more hugs in the morning time! Show more patience with them in the morning.
