Residents of the border town of Lethem in Region 9, Guyana, South America are breathing a sigh of relief after the realization of a multi-million dollars infrastructure project which saw the construction of new roads along the main commercial highway as well as outlying areas such as Tabatinga and Culvert City.

This publication was made to understand that different sections of the road works were funded by different ministries within the government and that the RDC funded a part of it too.

The construction of the new roads from the round-about near to the Lethem Power Company up to the Lethem Airport was funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission GGMC. (Photos below courtesy of Priscilla Lacruz).

The projects were awarded to Guyanese contractors who hired engineers from neighboring Brazil to construct the roads.

Not so long ago, the residents of Lethem endured the horrible effects of mud in the rainy season and extreme dust in the dry weather.
