Daniela Arauja is a Guyanese writer, spoken word artiste, poet, and model. She is one of the group 11 talented Guyanese, along with Poonam Singh and others, selected to represent Guyana at the World Expo 2020 being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from October, 1st, 2021 to March 31st, 2022. Guyana will be participating under the theme, “Home of nature-Land of opportunities.”
Earlier this year, Daniela had posted a controversial photo clad in the Guyana flag on Facebook.
Daughter of the soil. I was born into this nation bare then society placed layers on me, layers of beliefs, religions, gender, criticism etc. but underneath those layers, I AM GUYANESE. I really was going to hold back these photos because of the mere fact that I performed last night and I know how the Guyanese public is but I refuse to let that lock me in and deprive me from being free to post this on the day my nation became free. enjoy.

I’m very humbled and very grateful to be representing Guyana at the World Expo in Dubai. 13 months ago when I started poetry, performing on an international stage was merely a dream but now I get to live that dream. The last three months have been hectic, I cannot stress that enough, and if I’m being honest I wasn’t sure I was ready for this especially with the many challenges I was facing at the time but what is for me, IS FOR ME. Guyana, I’m ready to represent you with every fiber of my being. I’ll do it for me and I’ll do it twice as hard for you. Guyana’s team is made up of 11 amazing creatives- singers, dancers, a painter and a poet. I cannot wait to share what we’ve been working on for the past couple months! Thank you all for your continued love and support, it has gotten me here. A debt I can never repay but to continue doing what I do.
