Today, 21st of May, 2020, a total of 88 more boxes have been completed at the Arthur Chung Convention Center in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. This brings the total number of completed ballot boxes to 844 out of 2339.

Meanwhile, two pro-democracy protesters who were among the group of protesters who were protesting the barring of the Carter Center from Guyana were slapped with charges and released on $25,000.00 bail. Neil Kumar and Raphael Boodhoo were protesting in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when the police was called in and they were accused of breaking COVID-19 guidelines. The defendants maintained that they were protesting peacefully, wore masks and maintained social distancing during the protest action.

As of recent, pro-PPP/C supporters and others have been accusing the government of using COVID-19 as a tool to attempt to delay and derail the national recount process. The government has also written to the Carter Center informing them that they would not allow the observers to return because of COVID-19 and also because they feel the CARICOM is sufficient for observation purposes.
