I’ve decided to file this piece of literature away into the GSA archives because of its relevance to Guyana’s political history. Written by an non-aligned Guyanese politician and current Member of Parliament, Lenox Shuman, the text artfully highlights the struggles between the two main political forces of Guyana. Supporters of the PPP/C are calling Mr. Charandass Persaud a national hero while supporters of the APNU/AFC coalition are calling him a “Judas.”

Posted by Mr. Lenox Shuman on 21st of December, 2020.

On December 21, 2018, Hon. Charrandass Persaud changed the trajectory of Guyana from going down a path of dictatorship and financial ruin to a state where people will eventually become more enlightened and involved in determining their own political futures (Well, he started it and we ended it).

The PNC tried to wipe it away by calling it National Petroleum Day.

Coincidentally, today Saturn and Jupiter align in a rare celestial event that previously happened in the 12th century – 800 years ago. And, it is the winter solstice – the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere.

I would just say Happy Holidays

So, what do you think we should call December, 21st? National Petroleum Day or National Charandass Day? Tell us in the comments section.
