A video demonstrating how a “Roti Making Machine” simplifies the task of making roti has gone viral on Facebook. Everyone is asking, “where can I get one?”

The Video Below was Created and Posted on Facebook by Rita Samaroo

Roti is a food product which was first introduced to Guyana by the East Indians. In India, roti is most commonly called “chapati.” Although roti is an East Indian tradition, it has been adopted and relished by all ethnic groups of Guyana. Guyanese love roti so much that you would often hear the expression “roti is life.”

Making roti requires one to press and roll kneaded flour with a rolling pin. In Guyanese dialect, this is called “baylaying” the roti, and the rolling pin is referred to as a “bellna.”

However, a recent viral video, posted by a Guyanese couple, demonstrated how roti can be made with a “roti making machine” – thus eliminating the “baylaying” process – and easing the task of making roti considerably.

So Where Can you Get the Roti Making Machine?

The roti making machine is actually more popularly known as a tortilla press since it was first created to make the Mexican food product “tortilla.” Tortilla is similar to roti in a few aspects but it is not the same. I guess we can say that Tortilla is to Mexicans as Roti is to East Indians.

However, as the viral video shows, the tortilla press can easily be used to simplify the task of making roti. You no longer need to roll and press it with a rolling pin!

Rita explains that she tried many roti makers before, but they are not all just as good as this one. This one can be purchased on a website called “the roti maker.” After Rita’s video went viral on Facebook, she negotiated a discount code for customers to get the Roti maker even cheaper. Just go to, click “all products” and select “Roti Maker 2.0.” The price has been slashed from 149.99 down to 95 US dollars, but you can get a further ten percent discount if you type in the discount code “Rita” at checkout. If you click he link, the discount code will be automatically applied at checkout.
