Guyana Police Force Recognizes Constable Clifford George

Meet Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper, a well rounded officer and currently the Commander of Regional Division No.5, which stretches from the eastern side of the Mahaica River to the western bank of the Berbice River.

Mr. Cooper came from humble beginnings in the village of Nurney, East Berbice, Corentyne, Guyana, South America. Even though there were several Police Officers who originated from the said village, Mr. Cooper is first the be elevated to the rank of Senior Superintendent.

Having joined the Force on September 14, 1992 as an apprentice, then being sworn as a Police Constable in April 30, 1993, Mr. Cooper started his career as a General Duty rank at the Springlands Police Station and gradually continued his career as a Police Prosecutor for fourteen (14) years, then Station Sergeant for Sparendaam, Beterverwagting and Cove & John Police Stations, then Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of the Bartica Police Station, Linden, Cove & John and Port Kaituma Stations, then O/C Impact Base, O/C No. 1 Brickdam and Court Superintendent, positions he held simultaneously.

During his career, the Commander was also appointed Deputy Commander (A) Division, Linden and Berbice and Commander for the ‘D’ Division, ‘C’ Division and now Region #5. He was also O/C Project Office, acting Force Training Officer and acting Second-in-Charge of the Force Administration.

Mr. Cooper is the holder a Bachelors of Law from the University of Guyana, an International Diploma in Leadership Studies from the American University of Peace Studies, a Diploma in Private Investigation from Penn Foster College, USA, a Diploma in Public Safety and Security Management from the University of Guyana, a Certificate in Criminology from the University of Guyana, a Diploma in Legal Studies, a Masters of Arts Legal Studies Major in Criminology, a Certificate of Industrial Relation and Sociology, a Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the Hugh Wooding Law School.

Mr. Cooper is presently pursuing a PHD in law.
