I categorically condemn the killing of the three young men in Berbice.
The fact that the perpetrators of the gruesome killing of the Henry boys are in custody should have said that the Police are doing their work. That others saw it fit to slay another teen in retribution is not only deplorable, but downright animalistic. The descent to rape and pillage demonstrate that some were simply awaiting an excuse and an opportunity to become unlawful.
My heartfelt condolences go out to those who lost their loved ones. And to those whose properties were destroyed, it may cost some money, but don’t let this poison your heart and drive racist ideologies into your good soul.
It is reprehensible that some political actors are choosing to fan the flames of unrest to political ends instead of trying to calm the situation.
I do sincerely hope that the same vigour with which the Police took to finding the killers of the Henry boys will also be employed to finding the killer(s) of young Mr Singh and that justice is swift and equal in all circumstances.
I also call on the Police to catch and prosecute all that saw this as an opportunity to do unlawful things.
