Gail Teixeira is Guyana’s New Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance

Upon swearing in yesterday, 2nd of August, 2020, Guyana’s new president, Dr. Irfaan Ali, has appointed Gail Teixeira the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance. President Ali will assume the role of Minister of Defense and Commander in Chief of the Guyana Defense Force.

Gail Teixeira, a PPP/C Member of Parliament, had served in the past as the Minister of Home Affairs. She was also adviser to President Bharrat Jagdeo on governance.

Also yesterday, 2nd of August, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo was appointed Vice President and Mr. Mohabir Anil Nandlall was appointed the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs in Guyana, South America. Further appointments are expected to follow this week.

I have had a fervent interest in the restructuring of Guysuco, and I have written much about it over the past forty years. I am certain you have come across some of my published pieces, my last being in Stabroek New, June 11, titled: “Reopening Sugar Estates Would be a Disaster”. I feel very compelled and convicted, now that I am retired, to return to Guyana and give at least two years of service to my umbilical home in an area I feel I have some expertise.
