Last updated: September 12, 2022 at 10:24 amThe construction of the long awaited Lethem to Linden Highway is finally underway. This is according to an announcement made this morning by the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Region 9.
At present, the trail connecting Lethem to Linden is rugged and problematic – giving drivers a difficult time in the rainy season, and keeping the residents of Region 9 relatively cut off from the city. All of this is about to change with works underway for a modern highway that will make travel between Guyana’s southern border and the city much easier and faster.
Statement from the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Construction of the first link of the Linden-Lethem highway has commenced.
This project is the first link of the highway between Linden and Lethem. It would provide major support to ease of travel, trade, and general connectivity between Guyana and Brazil and open vast opportunities by linking Guyana’s hinterland communities to Georgetown,” the Finance Ministry said.
The road works include upgrading the existing alignment to asphaltic concrete surface – 2 lanes, 7.2m width, approximately 122km and the inclusion as well of five drainage structures.
