After the recent accusations by Vice News that Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo is heavily involved in fraud and is “selling out Guyana,” a slew of friends and fans have come forward to write strong statements of support for the Vice President, defending his honor. This piece was written by prominent Guyanese citizen and aviation pioneer, Captain Gerry Gouveia.

I am Proud to Call Him Friend

I watched him grow from a young man into the giant of a man today. He as a young President of Guyana and I was a young Private Sector leader in Guyana. Together we toiled every day, he from the Government side and I from the Private Sector side. We worked every day and every night over the past 25 years, working to make Guyana a better place.

I flew him all over Guyana, to every region and every village and I watched as Guyanese from all walks of life embraced him with love and with hope. There were times we disagreed, but generally we were both always focused on what is best for Guyana.

Both of us could have chosen to live anywhere else in this world as we got older, but we both chose to remain in Guyana and continued working day and night to contribute to protecting our democracy and making Guyana a prosperous country where our young people could work, buy a house, buy a car, travel and live happy lives right here in Guyana.

He is a man of great honor and integrity. I was proud to call him friend back then and remain proud to call him friend today.
